I trust, that's a good decision. The context of a component should always be carried with the component. I myself, found the global menus a lot troublesome, although the design intention to provide more room was successful.
It was a wrong choice of tool for that kind of a project, in the first place. The biggest problem that I've personally seen with AngularJS is the steep learning curve.
Hats off to the simplicity and focus these guys have. I have loved and admired this company over years. These announcements have only added more respect for them.
Excellent work there. I always wanted to work on such a public collection but kudos to these guys on making it a reality. I've used/read-about/tried-out most of the stuff listed there and appreciate the hardwork that has gone into putting all of it together.
I think Polymer (Google) and Brick (Mozilla) deserves a mention there as Web Components have a very high possibility of becoming the ultimate way for the future of web development.
Most probably they had a very valid reason. Why don't you first try to talk to your coworker who got fired? And there is no harm in talking to your manager as well about it; just act neutral, though.
I did ask my manager but he couldn't give me a concrete reason as far as my coworker I don't want to reach out to him right away because I know he is probably feeling very hurt and know he probably needs a little time to process what just happened.
You can't know for sure about feelings of other people. I'd love to be fired - there's so much fun stuff around:) So I'd count not talking as your excuse, not his.
If he can't give you a reason, he can give you a reason why he can't give you a reason ;)
I could find almost nothing on this thread to agree with. None of the other comments here make sense. I have high respect for HN community but this page make me doubt it. Why should we discuss the name? Apple, Windows - aren't they funny product names? How does it matter? What matters is a new product is launching - our community's criticism should help the product owner. If there are things that we believe won't work - give reasons. Appreciate what's good about it. Name, too, can be criticized but don't make fun out of it. Somebody has worked so hard on making that product a reality; respect that hardwork.
What I like about the product is the very idea. And also the way they have explained it on the website, the graphics, text everything. Really appreciable.
Thanks a lot. We weren't thinking about online schooling. We were hoping that schools of similar thinking and syllabus would come together to form some sort of network where they would allow pupils to attend from any of their supported locations. I know, it is asking for too much, especially, when it's the whole world that I'm talking about and not just US.
