I have this problem also and Pomodoro technique is a god send. 5 minutes in I am always ready to do something else but then refocus.

Productivity is how many pomodoros I have done on that task. Otherwise, I am just all over the place and nothing quite gets done.

Hell no. I suspect I got my current job so easily because I didn't distract the hiring manager with a LinkedIn profile that says exactly the same corporate gibberish as everyone else so I really stood out.

Anyone who reads this though please don't do this. You need to have a Linkedin profile to get a job and it needs to be tailored with language so specific to your industry that anyone outside your industry has no idea what it actually is talking about or what you actually got paid to do. If you don't do this you are a missing out.

The only time in my life the average person thought the economy was good was the peak of the dot com bubble.

Since then the average person either thinks the economy is bad and we are about to go into a recession if they don't think we are already in one, or we actually are in a recession.

It is the problem of the marginal utility of a dollar when the society is already so far out on this logarithmic curve.

I have found that it largely depends on class. If you are a blue collar or middle class worker, things have been getting worse for several decades now. If you are upper-middle class or richer, there may be more ebbs and flows in how you experience the economy.

Except lower class people got the highest increases in wages over the last few years. It's only the top 5% that haven't netted out far ahead, and they're basically at the same level as before.

And how has the cost of living/housing/transportation increased? And not just over 5 years. Over decades. How much more are they actually saving compared to 10 or 20 years ago? The reason why your points are considered "gaslighting" by others is because you are addressing the wrong questions.

This. All of my friends are blue collar workers. It's been getting tougher for them year after year. It's been difficult to watch at times.

The ones who have gone to work for themselves fare better, but it hasn't gotten any easier for those grinding it out on an hourly wage.

As an American that has gone up to Canada thousands of times in my life, you have to be completely delusional to say this.

The change in Canada from 20 years ago is just shocking. If you can't see this, it is because you don't want to see it.

All it means in the corporate world is who you know matters far more than what you know. AI doesn't make this less so it makes it far more so.

Even if this "works", you still most likely will lose out to the friend of a friend of the hiring manager with a personal reference.

So you need to do this and randomly hope that no one has a personal reference or you are so amazing you can overcome the personal reference. Highly unlikely.

I use to agree with this but I work remote and I can go to an office that is about a 15 minute drive away if I want.

Once I got use to working remote the motivation to go into the office went away completely. I not only don't have a home office but I just switch the input to my monitor when I log off for the day.

The song and dance of the office is just a total waste of time, space and money. It is just absurd this is even still a conversation.
