Someone needs to make a kevin-from-the-office skill. We could really use some of that "why waste time say lot word when few word do trick" here.

Definitely a quiet release. Perhaps pre-empting marketing for Astra public release?

All anthropic launches are like this. They just post it and don't particularly put out the PR sprint that OpenAI does with videos, livestreams or whatever.

(Except for of course Mythos and whatnot when they want to push the whole "safety" thing)

And Sam and Elon retweet Dario, agreeing with him. Not sure which is more weird.

Well, that's one way to market reaching a plateau.

They're either too numbed to care, or their drugs aren't able to stave off existential dread of having no idea how to help people in their daily lives while racing toward a cliff.

This could be the latter showing its face.

they all have the same problem. inference is profitable and training is not.

and worse, training can be distilled

and there’s diminishing returns to larger models and more training data, and there isn’t more training data anyway

This would generally be considered non-competitive cartel behavior. I'd be hard pressed to name 3 people I trust less than Amodei, Musk and Altman.

That and Chamath seemingly defending open source. What a day to be alive.

Sounds like they know there is risk of crash and they need an offramp.

They are destroying this country and I for one welcome it. I’m so tired of American hegemony and I don’t care if we all suffer. I want people to learn to do better next time/generation.

Issues such as?

I'm not OP, but when I started run-jog-walking one mile, three days a week (which is a bit more than two minute stairs every day, but still asking muscles, joints, and heart to wake up), that my back pain lessened, some niggling knee tightness stopped bothering me, and I noticed an increase in how long I could go doing something moderately strenuous before craving a rest (e.g. moving boxes, or walking with a heavy object, or running after something or someone). It doesn't have to be a massive lifestyle shift -- walking a couple times a week can give similar benefits. But the jump from "basically sedentary" to "loading muscles and joints and heart for ~20 minutes 2-3x a week" is truly ENORMOUS when it comes to our biological systems, and a lot of those systems start running a lot happier with that.

Exercise is not a panacea, and those who say it will fix everything and cure depression and make you perfect are quacks. But, it pains my contrarian ass to say, some light cardio every now and again is much closer to what our bodies are happy with than desk life, such has been my experience.

This right there. No, you're right, it's not a panacea. However, it absolutely fixed the period back problems I've dealt with most of my adult life. Now if I do something to tweak my lower back, I can't wait to get to a treadmill or out onto the sidewalk. It's the one thing I know will make it feel better.

Of course, that's going to be different for everyone. It'll make some people worse. For me, though (and apparently for you, too), it is the right way to treat those issues.

For those with knees not tolerant of running, I've taken to also rucking around with a heavy backpack. It's fantastic for building torso strength, and "your body weight plus 30 pounds" is still far less impact than "your body weight, but running". Walk up some hills steep enough to make you pant and wonder if you can make it to the top and your body may thank you for it, the way mine thanks me.

BTW, doctors have a saying: "motion is lotion". Also, "when you stop moving, you die". We are not evolved to take root on a sofa. Our bodies are meant to move and jostle and bounce and twist. Absent specific reasons not to, it can make a huge difference in physical comfort.

The elevator not working

I'd bet money he's talking about... men's issues

Discovered this after couple of hours of being confused. In normal chats, Claude desktop doesnt even display API Error: 529. It only does so in Cowork tasks. The regular chat just does an infinite "Clauding" animation.

what was the post?

By the article, it looks like he's actually stepping up.

Your comment says he's stepping up, the HN title says he's stepping down, the article says he's stepping aside. Nobody says if it's a step forward or backward.

We know he's definitely stepping. That's a start.

It's just a jump to the left...

Yeah I actually read this more as them scrambling because Jeff Dean is leaving? Because that is the role he is taking up

There is no way a Chief Scientist (essentially IC) role is more important than leading the whole of DeepMind, 6000 people strong, working on the most important product for the future of Alphabet.

This means Demis wanted a change and to work on other things, it's not Google wanting this.

Dean has pretty big symbolic importance inside of Google regardless of what his role title is/was

Edit: sibling story in front page links to this which explains better in its lede text than what I just wrote: https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/05/technology/google-researc...

Or Sundar wanted Demis to change to work on other things.

Wouldn't*

I spotted the reference, but did not think this deep lol. You have a point here.

I just came back from the theater. Every word of this article rings true. The movie is a piece of art, the best of star wars with the grandeur of Game of Thrones. Its very rare to get movies like this these days.

What were your feelings about part one, if you saw that back when it came out?

Watched the part one on day 1 as well. It was definitely more intriguing than enjoyable. The visuals and soundtrack really carried it despite the pacing. Imo, part one was just a great setup for this masterpiece.

Glad to hear it. I'm leaving to go see it 45 minutes from now.

Makes me regret I didn't take PTO to watch it, half my team are. :D

me and three other coworkers took a PTO too :)
